Drew's Words of Wisdom...
A university professor went to visit a famous Zen master. While the master quietly served tea, the professor talked about Zen. The master poured the visitor's cup to the brim, and then kept pouring.
The professor watched the overflowing cup until he could no longer restrain himself.
"It's overfull! No more will go in!" the professor blurted.
"You are like this cup," the master replied, "How can I show you Zen unless you first empty your cup."
We get so enamored sometimes in coaching and life inputting our own ideas and thoughts into a teaching moment that things can be overwhelming (think about all the cues you could give someone on a clean or back squat). So overwhelming in fact that nothing happens. Empty your cup and focus on just one drop. One cue might make the difference. Keeping it simple is usually the best option.
This Week's Hyperformance Podcast - Drew and Tana talk about New Year's Resolutions, check it out here.
Before I jump into this week's workouts I want to throw down the gavel....
I challenge the HPA community to lose 1000 pounds between now and March 31st.
This is a gym-wide challenge being issued by the coaching team to move the scale1000 pounds in the right direction. That may mean losing, gaining, or maintaining based on your goals. But most importantly, we're going to be accountable together and provide extra support for the next 3 months. More details coming out later this week.
Now onto the workout preview...
Please ask the coaches about the cash outs we have planned for this week. They are all trunk based. The quickest way to get stronger everything else is to get the trunk strong.
Monday we are going to heavy push press then do a cardio/grip based triplet. Rowing, double unders and kb swings are on the menu.
Tuesday we are going to front squat heavy then do an EMOM conditioning piece with thrusters, pullups, and burpees.
Wednesday is another Not for Time day. We will focus on HEAVY deadlifts, wt bear crawls and broad jumps. If broad jumps are not in the cards, then higher box jumps could be done.
Thursday we will do some technique work with snatching. After, we will put running, OHS and HSPU in another powerful triplet just like monday.
Friday we will do a version of 17.2 with Lunges, TTB, BMU, and Power Cleans.
Saturday will be FUN. Work with a partner to accomplish a bunch of work in a 7 min window. We will back squat, push press and deadlift as the main parts.
