Drew's Words of Wisdom...
Today's Vision come from CompTrain Coach Harry Palley. His words of wisdom here ring true.
"The Open can leave us feeling a bit hollow.
No matter how much we improved from last year, we struggle to feel satisfied. If we met our goal during a workout, we immediately wish we had pushed a little bit harder. When we hit a new PR, we immediately raise the bar for the next one. No matter how much we improved from last year, we wish our final placing on the leaderboard was a little bit higher.
As we reflect on this year’s Open, it’s important to remember that happiness does not lie on the other side of achievement. Achievement is fleeting—as soon as we hit a new milestone, we set our sights on the next one.
Excitement comes from achievement. Fulfillment comes from the journey that got you there.
We’re never going to reach a place where we sit back with our hands behind our head, completely content with who we are as athletes and people. As Ryan Holiday writes in The Obstacle Is The Way, “One does not overcome an obstacle to enter the land of no obstacles.” No matter how much we improve, there will always be room to grow. There will always be more obstacles, bigger challenges. We’re always fighting uphill.
Many of us did not accomplish our goal of making to Regionals or advancing to the Masters or Teen qualifier. Does this mean we failed?
If we did our best, if we put in the work, if we developed as an athlete and improved as a competitor, we haven’t failed. Not even close."
We are better than last year by far. Enjoy how far you have come, but get excited for how much further you get to go! DREW
