Drew's Words of Wisdom...

Never in a million years did I think I would quote Dave Chappelle in a Visionary role. I was wrong.

"Our culture has accepted two huge lies. The first is that if you disagree with someone's lifestyle, you must fear or hate them. The second is that to love someone means you agree with everything they believe, say or do. Both are nonsense. You don't have to compromise convictions to be compassionate."

Even if this quote is not attributed to a comedian, the power behind the statement is amazing. If we are not cautious, the unknown can cause fear. Fear can lead to anger. Anger can lead to hate. Hate always leads to suffering. The good part is that you get to CHOOSE compassion. You can break molds with compassion.

FRIDAY NIGHT LIGHTS

WEEK 1 PRESENTED BY VICTORY GRIPS

Calling all Friday Night Lighters! The week is finally here and we are ready to kick things off. Here is the low down....

On Thursday night just after 8 PM we will find out what the workout is from the live announcement at games.crossfit.com. From there Drew and Tana will work out logistics and get heat sign ups live at 9:30PM. This will go out via SignUp Genius through Facebook as well as through email. Slots are first come first serve.

Doors open at 4PM, first heat will start at 4:30PM. Everyone is encouraged to stay through the last heat and a small awards ceremony. We will need help judging! Please jump in, judge and lift your community up!

FNL Score Cards- You all should have received an email with your score card. (Yes, we will have some printed out at the gym) The scoring started on Saturday. There are points that can be accumulated daily, weekly and the night of. Help your team out and rack up those points. There will be buckets for each team set up at the gym for you to drop your score card in weekly. You can turn it in early, just know points will only be counted up to the turn in date.

It is up to your team to communicate and bring your best retro team spirit each week. We are not asking that teams provide anything this year except for on week 5. On week 5 we will celebrating with a potluck style mixer. Teams will be designated items to provide. If you have further questions, please steer them to your team leader.

Victory Grips will be on site for Week 1! This is your chance to test out the very best gymnastics grips in the game.

OPEN GYM Announcement

This year for Friday Night Lights (FNL) there will be no scheduled friday classes. We want to see you on Friday night. The evening will be spent doing the Open WOD as a huge group in heats.

As an alternative, there will be an OPEN GYM time from 6am - 12 noon on Fridays and Saturdays from 11am - 2 pm.

Open Gym is available for all current members (even if you are not doing FNL). GUESTS ARE NOT ALLOWED FOR OPEN GYM.

Open gym will look a little different than regular classes. There will be a coach monitoring, but it is up to YOU to self motivate. The coaching staff will give suggestions and help, but will NOT lead you through your workout or judge you for the Open. We will have a suggested workout on the board, or you can do any WOD missed during the week. This is a great opportunity to practice any skill, do some extra strength work, or just get in some mobility before the evening event.

TRAINING

SH(R)ED 1000 -

Doldrums. The area in the ocean where the wind dies. The sails drop and the boat quits moving forward. No worries. Get the oars out and start creating your own momentum. DO the habits you have been creating the last 4 weeks. Focus on doing your best each time you eat something. Create your own momentum.

WORKOUT PREVIEW

Please note, the entire week's worth of workouts are currently on the whiteboard in the front of the gym. The details of each day can be found there.

  • Monday- Long solo chipper.

  • Tuesday we are interval training with Double unders, front squats and HSPU.

  • Wednesday is one of my all time favorite WODs, Helen. Run, KBS, and Pull-ups

  • Thursday is an easy pace row, single arm deadlift and shoulder press.

  • Friday is Open gym then FNL. The WOD for FNL gets posted on Thursday night at 8pm. Please look to games.crossfit.com for the WOD.

  • Saturday will be in teams of 4 doing 2 Gobble Games Workouts circa 2016.
